The laser treatment of psoriasis is still being researched and evaluated so is not freely available at present. A few years ago, it looked as though it might prove successful and would become more widely available, but research has not really suggested that it is worth the investment in expensive equipment. One early approach was to remove the plaques with a laser, but this was unsuccessful. Better results seemed to come from tuning a laser to destroy the blood vessels feeding the plaques, but the more likely use of lasers may lie in treatments similar in nature to PUVA. UV light treatments. Other forms of non-UV light are also being looked at, particularly a very focused red light – the equipment for this is also cheaper than a laser.

Antibiotics help with infections and were used when I first got a rash many years ago. Would they help my psoriasis now?

The only type of psoriasis that can be helped by antibiotics is the guttate form, in which the trigger has been a throat infection caused by the Streptococcus bacterium. A toxin produced by the bacterium is the cause in these cases, and even if the throat seems better, it is worth taking a course of an antibiotic to ensure that the bacterium is eradicated, so no further toxin is produced to drive the psoriatic reaction. This sounds as if it was your first experience of psoriasis, so you had the right treatment at the time. Unfortunately, it sounds as though you have gone on to develop more typical plaque psoriasis, and this is not helped by antibiotic treatment. It may be a good idea for you to make sure that any sore throats you get are not caused by the Streptococcus bacterium as a new infection could trigger a flare-up of your psoriasis.
