I began having problems with psoriasis few years ago. My particular case of Psoriasis and symptoms was “Chronic Scalp Psoriasis” -it was my main symptom, also small patches on nose folds, ears and eyebrows (mainly during flareups). I had red patches on my forehead and the sides of my face, and started to get bumps and little veins on those patches as well, then came the red patches and scales on my elbows, knees and groin area.
I tried several products – soaps, pills, ointments, herbal products hoping to find something that could cause the situation but my psoriasis used to get worsened. The irritation I had on skin was horrible.
Many sites on the internet chart out their own lists of “best psoriasis outbreaks treatment ”, “best psoriasis products” and so on. I can surely say that 70% of them do not work. I quickly found out that a majority of them were just gimmicks and could not help my situation. So what did I learn -
1. I tried the drug methotrexate and it’s side effect nausea started to show up. Besides it sort of gave me constant stomach bloating though I don’t clearly know if it was from the drug. But I came to knew about the drug’s harmful side effects on liver – According to health.com “The risk of liver damage is high enough that, after taking the drug for a year or more, patients often require a liver biopsy to test for toxins in the organ.” So I stopped taking the drug. I tried Biologic drugs injections, they were expensive and I had injection site reactions and inflammation in eyes. Perhaps it is not a good idea for an already infected skin to be given injections. So it was a bad choice though I had some relief.
2. I began to seriously research on the topic of ‘psoriasis’ and came to realize that a working both from the outside as well as the inside is essential for getting rid of psoriasis. I began seeing a dermatologist – Some of the topical creams he prescribed to me were so strong that they caused my skin to dry up and start peeling and sometimes even bleeding. I was also recommended ‘carbon dioxide laser treatment’ with cost of about $5000 but again I was skeptical and to be honest afraid of side effects – hyperpigmentation or dark splotches. Trying topical creams one after another and going back and forth between being beet red to having all of my skin peeling off was not good either.
3. Thereafter I looked at herbal pills and products that claimed to be the magic solution. I tried a few but to be honest did not see a single positive effect out of them. Thereafter I read an article on naturalnews.com how herbal industry has been crowded by scam artists who use fillers in their products, use deceptive advertising by shady tactics like creating fake product review websites. Some of such companies have been even sued for their marketing practices.
After encountering with so many products and treatment options, I realized most of all those psoriasis treatment products are ineffective or can only delay psoriasis outbreaks at best.

1. Avoid any soaps that are granular. Granular soaps are terribly too abrasive for the skin of acne, psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis sufferers.
2. Avoid most traditional soaps even “mild” have a pH of around 9.5 – 11 which is too alkaline and may cause excessive dryness and irritation. These soaps traditionally remove the natural acid protection and extract the fats from the skin as well.

Salicylic Acid as Effective Ingredient in Psoriasis Treatment

Severity of Psoriasis
Psoriasis can be classified as mild, moderate, or severe. Psoriasis affecting three to ten percent of the body can be considered as moderate, while in severe cases, about more than ten percent is affected. Another point of consideration in evaluating the severity of psoriasis is its effects to the sufferer. It can possibly create serious impact on the daily activities of the afflicted if it occurs in the palms or soles, no matter how small the area affected.
Contra-Indications of Psoriasis Treatments
Some psoriasis treatments do not have salicylic acid and coal tar as part of their ingredients. Products with capsaicin, zinc pyrithione, jojoba, Aloe Vera, and a lot more are commonly used to relieve the itch, remove the scale, soothe, and moisturize. However, these products with natural ingredients should be used with caution due to unknown effects. Sometimes, natural ingredients can cause allergic or adverse reactions. However, there are no medical basis to support these claims. On the other hand, recent studies disclosed that turmeric has no effect against psoriasis.
Herb Remedies
With the increasing popularity of herbs as psoriasis treatment, caution should be exercised regarding its use due to possible fatal interactions with other medications. An example of which is St. John’s wort, which is a famous natural “mood lifter” but can cause light sensitivity and minimize the blood level of cyclosporine. Its use can pose potential danger for people who expose their psoriasis to the sun by means of sunbathing or exposure to ultraviolet light treatment.
Fish Oil
Using fish oil as psoriasis treatment showed different results on humans in various studies made on Max-EPA fish oil. The results showed mild to moderate improvement, hence, it cannot be relied upon as a definite cure. However, laboratory animals responded well with favorable effects on their cardiovascular and immune systems. Nonetheless, psoriasis as an immune-related disease did not create a positive response in humans.
Scalp psoriasis cure
It was noted that fifty percent of people with psoriasis have scalp psoriasis. It may be in the form of fine scaling, slight or very mild. On the other hand, it can be severe where the entire scalp is covered by thick and crusted plaques. In certain cases, it will affect the hairline, ears, forehead, and back of the neck.
In line with this, a skin disorder called seborrheic dermatitis can be mistaken as scalp psoriasis. The former is powdery with silvery colored luster while the latter is yellowish in color and appears greasy.
Treatment of scalp Psoriasis
When a certain scalp psoriasis cure becomes less responsive, other medicines are used alternately or in combination with other drugs. There is no universal treatment intended for scalp psoriasis.
